Gender-based violence and femicide demand a response from all of South Africa. Drive4Her calls on Cape Town’s motoring community to take responsibility and act.
Safety is not a privilege.
Women in South Africa face violence that should never be treated as inevitable.
Gender-based violence and femicide are the reason Drive4Her exists. We are organising a Cape Town motorcade as a public stand and a way to raise funds for work against this violence.
The organisation that will receive funds is still being selected. We will name it and explain the donation arrangements before fundraising opens.
This is everybody’s responsibility.
A public stand matters when it is followed by action.
Why the automotive community?
Women are approximately 30% of employees in South Africa’s organised automotive retail aftermarket.
Source: Retail Motor Industry Organisation, citing MIBCO workforce dataMen make up the larger share of this part of the sector. That gives us an opportunity to speak directly to one another about the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence against women to persist.
We stand with women, listen to them and use our own platform to call for change. The motorcade makes that commitment visible. Responsible fundraising must give it substance.
